For the seventh year in a row, Dongguan celebrated the DG Dragons Baseball Club with a fantastic Chili Cook-Off at One For the Road (hosted their third consecutive cook-off) to raise more than 100,000 RMB to support the community’s only baseball program.
No less than 12 teams competed (and thanks for their incredible, hard work!) for the “Best Chili,” but only one champion emerged: Chang’an’s original Hollywood Baby.
The still admirable 2nd place was taken by local teacher Geoff, who was graciously sponsored by Nogogo online grocery store.
Rounding out the podium in 3rd was Scott’s team, headed by Chef Jake who was visiting.
The People’s Choice Award once again went to ISD and their vegetarian chili, while Best Theme was taken by the Spice Girls. Beckham was a no-show, probably unable to handle the heat.
Although One for the Road doesn’t raise their own team, this event wouldn’t be possible without them. Not only did they donate the venue, but also a huge supply of drinks, during the main event and the after party, to raise even more money to allow anyone to be a Dragon and play ball free of charge. Our community is made better through efforts like these. Cheers to them!
“We can safely say that this year was the most successful yet, with both teams and organizers enjoying the entire day. More than 500 [people] turned up to give support to the Dongguan Dragons Kids Baseball Club, while also trying some fantastic chili recipes,” said Jason Cakebread, managing partner of One for the Road.
The organizers would also like to thank the donors that supplied the valuable items for the auction, the countless families that support the team and event, the critical work (and always impartial!) of the judges, volunteers and Hollywood Baby Too for their band’s performance at the after party.
See you all next year for another fantastic cook-off!
